Description:
The study of literary genres offers us an insight into the ways in which political and cultural contexts are not just reflected in literature, but are also responsible for shaping it. This course introduces students to the conventions which define each genre, while emphasizing the idea that categorizations are constantly shifting, resulting in a rich and fluid tradition. Students will read and analyze texts from various genres and historical time periods to develop a critical understanding of movements and trends within English literature.
